Bronco Volleyball gears up for final non-conference competition at UFirst Intermountain Invite over the weekend

With a 10-2 record No.3 New Mexico Military Institute will open play at the UFirst Intermountain Invite against No. 5 Salt Lake City College on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 5 p.m.  NMMI will conclude play on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. when they face off against No. 14 Eastern Arizona College. 

On Friday, the Broncos will take on the College of Southern Idaho at 11 a.m. and follow it up with a 3 p.m. matchup against Snow College. NMMI will play its third straight weekend away from home, growing the match tally to 12 straight away from the Cahoon Armory Gym after Saturday morning. 

The Broncos are led by reining WJCAC Offensive Player of the Week Sarah Schubert and week one NJCAA DI Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week Fuka Sekita, who ranks third in the country in digs with 253 and fourth in digs per set with an average of 6.02 per set. 

Displaying balance on both the offensive and defensive sides, NMMI is ranked 9th in the nation in kills per set averaging 12.33 per set. While averaging 19.55 digs per set, the Institute ranks 4th in the country with a total of  821 digs. 

NMMI has straight-set victories in seven of the 10 total wins on the year, never seeing five sets in any win this season. The only two losses of the season came to No. 1 Florida Southwestern State College and  No. 6 Northeastern Junior College, who were ranked third in the nation at the time. 

New Mexico Military will begin conference play on the road against Amarillo College on Wednesday, Sept. 18. before they return home for the first time in three weeks on Saturday, Sept. 21 as they host Odessa College for a conference matchup at 2 p.m. in the Cahoon Armory Gym.
