Matching her point total, Jadyn Wade also tallied five points in the quarter to help NMMI cut into the deficit.

The Lady Colts outscored Ruidoso, 14-9, in the period to cut the deficit to just four as they trailed 23-19 after the first half.

Q3

With a slight lead, Ruidoso kept their foot on the gas. Aliyah Zamora and Neveah Clark used the third quarter to trade buckets. Clark scored 10 of the Lady Colts’ 18 third-quarter points while knocking down a three and a pair of free throws. Sofia Barreras, Ezebelle Gomez and Lackey also contributed a bucket to the point total for the Lady Colts.

However, Zamora responded with 10 of her own for Ruidoso as NMMI just outscored the visiting team, 19-18, in the third quarter.

Q4

However, no other Lady Colts could find some rhythm as NMMI was outscored 16-10 in the final eight minutes of the game.

Second-year Head Coach Lawrence Hall was pleased with the team effort after the first quarter, “One thing I preach is that your effort will allow everything else to open up … when we did that after the first quarter, we looked better,” Hall said. “I was very proud of how hard we played and how we stuck together tonight,” Hall said.

NMMI will return to the court on Friday, Feb. 7 as they take on Tularosa High School at 6 p.m. MST in Tularosa, NM.
