
On Friday night, New Mexico Military Institute opened their 2025 home schedule with a 38-27 loss against Hagerman High. With the setback, the Lady Colts open the year 0-3 while Hagerman improves to 7-5 on the year.
Q1
In the first quarter, Hagerman found the first wave of momentum as they jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead. However, with the help of a three from Ezebelle Gomez and Neveah Clark the Lady Colts were able to cut into the deficit as they trailed 9-6 after the first 8 minutes of action.
Q2
In the second period, the Bobcats were able to outscore NMMI 10-2 as Pamela Chacon scored six of her 12 total points on the evening. Siany McGhan was the lone scorer for the Lady Colts in the second quarter as NMMI trailed 19-8 heading into halftime.
Q3
After 16 minutes of action, the Lady Colts were able to establish some offensive rhythm with the help of pair of buckets by Clark, who tallied five of her eight total points. McGhan added in a bucket as the Lady Colts outscored Hagerman 7-5 in the period.
Q4
In the final period, it was the Kaytlyn Lackey show. Scoreless in the first three quarters, Lackey ignited the final quarter with 10 points to keep the Lady Colts within reach. However, Hagerman was able to respond with an 8-point performance in the final quarter by Ariana Magallanes as she tallied eight of her 19 total points.
With a quick turnaround, Head Coach Lawrence Hall wants to see a change to the start of tomorrow’s game, “we have to start faster, we can’t wait to be down 8-10 points to get going … it has to be from the jump,” Hall said. With a different story in each half, Hall was pleased by the halftime response of his squad, “I enjoyed how we came out of halftime, we were able to respond and score a few shots,” Hall said.
The Lady Colts return to the court tomorrow afternoon as they host Loving High at 2:00 p.m. MST in the Godfrey Athletic Center Gym.
