Colts conclude the regular season at the Roswell City Meet

The boys and girls Colt track and field team showed up to the Roswell city track meet on Friday April 25, 2025 to compete and see who was the fastest school in Roswell. NMMI proved their worth after multiple athletes qualified for state, and made it to the podium for their winning medal.

 

Cohen Tomasits was NMMI’s highest performer at the Roswell city meet. He made it to the podium for his 1st place, 2nd, and third place medals; Cohen also qualified for state in two events. In the boys 100m dash, Cohen got first place with a state qualifying time of (11.24). In the boys 200m dash, Cohen came in 2nd place with another state qualifying time of (23.18). Cohen also competed in the long jump where he jumped (18-10.5) putting him in third place.

 

Miguel Garcia was also a fierce competitor behind Cohen Tomasits. Miguel competed in boys triple jump, 100m dash, 200m, dash, and 400m dash. In the triple jump, Miguel got 3rd place with a jump of (38-5). In the 100m dash Miguel got third place with a state qualifying time of (11.60). In the 200m dash, Miguel got fourth place with a state qualifying time of (23.48). Lastly for Miguel, in the boys 400m dash, Miguel got second place with a state qualifying time of (50.77).

 

Cale Taylor ran in the 3200m, 1600m, and the 800m dash. In the 3200m run, Cale came in first place with a time of (12:13.94). In the 1600m run, Cale came in twelfth place with a time of (6:15.36). Cale must have been saving his energy for the 800m, because Cale placed third in the boys 800m dash with a great time of (2:12.69).

 

Aleksey Yemelianov is also a popular cross country runner like Cale, but Aleksey stayed in the distance running end of the track meet. Aleksey ran the 1600m and came in third place with a time of (5:34.08).

 

Sawyer Hull is definitely a great field events competitor. In the boys high jump, Sawyer got second place with a state qualifying height of (6-0). In the boys long jump, Sawyer got second place with a distance of (19-1.5). Lastly, in javelin, Sawyer threw (133-7) which put him in second place.

 

Warren Spaniel tied with Sawyer Hull in high jump where he got a height of (6-0), this tied him for second place with Sawyer. Warren also competed in the 400m dash, he ran a time of (56.89) which put him into fifth place.

Edward Vigil competed in the boys 300m hurdles where he placed fifth overall with a state qualifying time of (44.05). Edward also competed in the boys 110m high hurdles where he came in at fourth place with a time of (18.34).

 

Together as a team, the boys Colts 4x100m relay team ran a time of (44.24) which put them in second, and also qualified them for state. The boys 4x200m relay team also went in hard and came out with a state qualifying time of (1:36.09), this also secured them second place at the track meet. The boys 4x400m relay came in third place with a time of (3:56.91). The boys 4x800m relay also placed third with a time of (9:22.79).

 

The ladies Colt team did pretty good as well. The girls 4x100m relay team came in with a third place time of (56.64). In the 4x200m relay, they ran a time of (1:57.25) which put them into third place again. In the girls 4x800m relay, the girls ran a time of (11.32.91) which placed them in second.

 

Sofia Barreras competed in the girls high jump where she jumped (4-6) putting her in 3rd place.  Sophia also ran in the girls 200m dash, she came in second place with a time of (29.46). Sophie was not finished after those events, she ran in the girls 400m dash and got first place with a time of (1:04.30).

 

Jaylah Clay competed alongside Sophie Barreras in the 200m dash, Jaylah stole the third place finish from Goddard. Jaylah ran a time of (29.68).

 

Roslyn Desmore ran the girls 800m dash, she secured second place with a time of (2:47.43). She also ran in the 1600m where she placed third with an overall time of (6:26.96).

 

Abigail Birdsong ran the 3200m and placed third with a time of (16:19.66).

 

In the girls triple jump Madison Vinton got first place with a distance of (29-7.5)

 

The District 4-3A meet will take place Friday, May 2 in Tularosa, NM. The state meet is May 9-10 at the University of New Mexico Track & Field Complex in Albuquerque.
