Sophomore swimmer Danilo Brito continued his stellar swimming season with two more gold medals at the NMAA District 3-4 Championships in Artesia Saturday.
Brito won the 50-yard freestyle race with a time of 22.23 seconds, edging Artesia's Aidan Ciro by a little more than half a second. In the 100-yard free, Brito finished first at 48.93 seconds, again beating a Bulldog on his home water by nearly two seconds.
Senior Mary Kathryn Olvera didn't take home a gold as she has in earlier meets this season, but she did achieve her personal goal of breaking two NMMI swimming records.
Olvera took fifth place in the girls 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.18 seconds to beat the old Institute record of 26.33. She took ninth in the 500-yard free and smashed the old record of 6:04 minutes with a finishing time of 5:56.82.
Both swimmers, along with the boys 200-yard free relay team, are qualified for the state swim meet, which takes place Feb. 23-24 at the Albuquerque Academy Natatorium.
