On Tuesday evening, New Mexico Military Institute defeated Ruidoso High, 2-0. With the win, the Colts improved to 12-5 on the year with a 9-0 mark in district competition. With the loss, Ruidoso slips to 4-13 on the year.

In the first 10 minutes of the game NMMI applied the pressure as Ruidoso saw little time on the ball. Anytime the Colts would lose possession, it was regained almost immediately as the NMMI defense made sure the Ruidoso players had no time.

After a few attempts on goal, NMMI broke the goalless tie near the 12th minute as Lucas William Abreu Amorim scored from inside the box after he put away his own rebound off a wonderful initial save by Gerardo Ramirez to give the Colts an early 1-0 lead.

As the first half continued the Colt defense controlled the pace and tempo, not allowing  Ruidoso to create a single shot on target as NMMI only allowed one corner in the opening half.

About 20 minutes after the first goal, Luis Rodriguez Valencia dribbled down the sideline before crossing it to Jose Arsenal Mijares who headed the ball into the back of the net and gave NMMI the two-goal advantage around the 32nd minute mark.

In the second half, both teams were able to establish possession and create some opportunities  near goal. Ruidoso was able to string some passes together but never really tested NMMI goalkeeper Rudolfo Anaya.

On the other hand, the Colts offensive unit was able to attack the goal forcing numerous saves by the Ruidos keeper. Most of the second half was played in the defensive half of Ruidoso but their defense was able to hold strong in the second half.

Although NMMI had numerous shots and shots on target, they were unable to find the back of the net in the second half as the game ended 2-0 in favor of the Colts.

The Colts are yet to suffer defeat in October as they are currently on a nine-game win streak and sit at the top of the district standings with one match remaining.

NMMI will return to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. MDT as they host Hatch Valley at Stapp Parade Field to conclude the regular season.
