
On Monday afternoon, NMMI dropped game 8-4 before stumbling in game two, 18-10, of Monday's doubleheader against Odessa College. Picking up four wins, the Wranglers improve to 14-8 with an 8-2 mark in conference play.
GAME 1
To open the doubleheader, Jose Rodriguez Mestre helped put the Broncos on the board with an RBI single – his 11th RBI of the year. After a scoreless second inning, Odessa used the top of the third frame to tie the game at 1-1. In the top of the fourth, the Wranglers scored another run with the help of a pair of walks to take a 2-1 lead.
In the home half, Ericson Kim recorded an RBI-double which scored Seojun Oh who was on base after recording a single to knot the game at 2-2. However, in the top of the fifth inning, the visiting team was able to score six runs to take a commanding 8-2 lead.
Attempting to comeback, NMMI used the final inning to score a pair of runs but the comeback fell short as the Broncos grounded out to drop game three of the series 8-4.
Wonjae Cho hit 3-for-4 while Jose Rodriguez Mestre finished hitting 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.
GAME 2
In game two, NMMI started off on fire. The Broncos opened the bottom of the first by getting runners on base with a pair of singles and a walk. After an RBI single by Jose Rodriguez Mestre, Misael Maldonado Baez cleared the bags with his sixth home run of the season to give NMMI a quick 4-0 lead.
Again in the bottom of the second inning, with two outs, the Broncos grew their lead. With the help of an RBI double by Rodriguez Mestre and Maldonado Baez, NMMI held a 7-0 lead after the first two innings.
However, Odessa College would respond in the next three innings. They used the third and fourth innings to score a trio of runs, before scoring four runs in the fifth to take a 10-9 lead. An inning later the Wranglers scored another run with a sac fly-out.
In the bottom of the sixth, Seung Min Shin tallied his third homer of the year to score a run for the home squad but it would not be enough. Odessa responded by scoring seven runs in the top of the seventh inning as they held an 18-10 advantage.
Misael Maldonado Baez finished game two hitting 3-for-3 with 5 RBIs. Jose Rodriguez Mestre finished hitting 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
The Broncos return to action on Friday, March 21 as they take on Midland College for a four-game series concluding on Saturday, March 22.
