On Wednesday afternoon, Colt soccer opened their 2024 home regular-season schedule suffering a 3-2 loss against Goddard in overtime. With the loss, the Colts dip to a 3-5 overall record to open the season.

Opening the match, Goddard initiated the attacking as the majority of the game's first 15 minutes were spent in the Colts defensive half. Creating opportunities of their own, NMMI answered with a couple of counters that ended with misplaced crosses.

With about 16 minutes on the clock, Lucas William placed a ball in the bottom left corner just out of reach of the NMMI keeper to give the Rockets an early 1-0 lead.

Using the goal as motivation, the Colts attack came alive as they controlled the tempo of the match for the next 10 minutes. Creating chances through crosses and counters, NMMI knotted the game at 1-1 as Lucas William slotted a ball that fell at the top of the 18-yard box, into the side netting.

In the second half, the Colts found their rhythm as they controlled the possession and were applying pressure to start off the second half. Near the 55th minute, the Colts forced a couple of saves as the ball was kicked around inside the 18-yard box.

After nearly 30 minutes of a scoreless second half, both teams found another gear as Goddard took the 2-1 lead with the help of a Luis Morales shot which rolled past the Colt keeper.

Less than two minutes later, the Colts answered back as Luis Rodriguez dribbled past a few Rocket defenders before ripping a shot past the far side of the keepers goal to tie the game at 2-2 near the 78th minute.

80 minutes of regulation was not enough to separate the two sides as the contest went into overtime for the second time of the season in as many meetings between the teams.

After a back and forth opening three minutes of overtime, Goddard played a long ball over the NMMI defense which found the head of David Alvarez who headed the ball of the Colt keeper to secure the 3-2 win for the visiting team.

The Colts return to the pitch on Saturday, Sept. 21 as they make the trip to Las Vegas, NM to take on Roberston at 1 p.m.
