
On Tuesday night New Mexico Military Institute traveled to Tatum, NM for a matchup with the Coyotes as the Colts left with a 47-30 win. Jumping back into the win column with the 17-point win over Tatum High, the Colts improved to 3-2 on the young season.
Q1
Off the tip-off, the Colts were able to set the tone of how the rest of the game would turn out. Mihail Parada started the scoring with an easy two before giving NMMI a 10-6 lead with three minutes left in the first quarter with a contested layup.
With the help of three forced turnovers, NMMI was able to take an eight-point lead after Micah Grado added two of his four total points on the evening to make it a 14-8 ball game.
Q2
In the second quarter, NMMI continued their momentum as they were unable to hold off the Coyotes from making any true comeback. Tatum would cut the lead to just four but the Colts responded with an 8-3 to take their largest lead of the game with a 26-15 advantage after Cole Seidenberger tallied two of his 10 total points on the evening.
As the final minutes of the half counted down, Tatum was able to hangout and cut the lead to just 7 as the Coyotes scored the final shot of the half to make it a 28-21 ballgame heading into halftime.
Q3
Coming out of halftime both teams made adjustments as the offense for both sides struggled to find any rhythm in the third quarter. In the entire quarter, the score difference was 8-5 in favor of the Colts as the third quarter ended 36-26.
Q4
After a slow third quarter, the Colts picked up the scoring in the final period as Parada drilled a three to give NMMI a 39-26 lead with just over seven minutes remaining in the ballgame. A couple possessions later, the Institute took their largest lead of the game after Micah Grado recorded a steal and kept it himself for an easy layup on the offensive end to give NMMI the 45-29 advantage.
In the final four minutes of the game the Colts buckled down on defense as they only allowed a single point off a free throw to close out the game. In the 47-30 win, the Colts shot over 45% from the field while allowing Tatum to just 22.9 % shooting.
Parada led all scorers with 18 points while Seidenberger contributed a double-double with 10 points and game-high 13 rebounds.
Up next, the Colts travel to Moriarty, NM for a trio of games at the Bruce King Invitational starting Thursday, Dec. 12 and concluding on Saturday, Dec.14.
