On Saturday evening, the Broncos jumped back in the win column as they earned their first home and conference win of the season at the Wool Bowl.

Picking up the 21-16 win, NMMI improves to 2-2 on the year with a 1-1 record to open conference play.

Q1

After three straight weeks away from home, the Broncos wasted no time scoring in front of their home fans. NMMI opened the game with a 65-yard scoring drive as Elliot Paskett-Bell completed three early passes with one of those going for a 19-yard touchdown connection to the tight end Karl Peterson

After the Broncos took the early 7-0 lead with 12:43 on the clock, both sides failed to gain any momentum the remainder of the first quarter as it ended with five consecutive punts.

Q2

Taking off the first five minutes of the second quarter, the Broncos moved the ball 36 yards in 11 plays before missing a 47-yard field goal attempt to give Blinn back the ball on their own 30.

Using 12 plays in their next possession and five minutes, Blinn was able to score their first touchdown as Tyler Cooks broke a couple of tackles for a seven yard touchdown scramble. The Broncos would stay leading 7-6, after a missed extra point by Max Nowak.

Q3

Opening the second half on defense, NMMI forced a turnover on downs on the first possession as Rayden Aphayvong stuffed the runner short of the line to gain, on a fourth and one for Blinn College. The next possession, the Broncos would attempt a 47-yard field goal that came up just short.

With 12:31 in the third quarter, the visiting team used a 31-yard pass from Cooks to Tracy James Jr to set up a first and goal for the Buccaneers. Two plays later, Jalen Washington scored a one yard touchdown rush to give Blinn the 13-7 lead.

NMMI answered back in just over three minutes as Paskett-Bell drove the Broncos down the field in just three plays before finding Javion McKay wide open in the endzone from 32-yards out to give NMMI a 21-13 lead.

Q4

Down by a single possession, Blinn answered the Broncos touchdown with a 35-yard field goal attempt as Nowak drilled it through the uprights to make it a 21-16 ballgame. With 8:41 remaining in the contest, NMMI held the ball for just over six of those minutes to bleed the clock out and minimize any comeback opportunity for Blinn.

The game came down to the final play as Aphayvong broke up an intended pass to Breck Chambers at the goaline to secure the 21-16 victory for New Mexico Military Institute.

The Broncos return to the field Saturday, Oct. 5 as they travel to Tyler, TX for a 3 p.m. CDT conference matchup against Tyler Junior College.
