Two more wins for the Broncos against the Plainsmen on Saturday. NMMI took the first 12-6, then made a late comeback to win the nightcap 6-5.

Roswell native and Roswell High grad Jeremiah Burrola was instrumental in the come-from-behind Game 3 win with a two-run homerun in his first-ever collegiate at bat.

NMMI head coach Chris Cook, entering his 13th year at the reigns of the Broncos, has used very different lineups in each of the three initial victories in this season-opening four-game series vs. Northeastern Junior College.

"We've still got guys who haven't played," said coach Cook. "It's a challenge having this many hitters, trying to do what is right - what they deserve - for the guys who put the work in, to give them some opporutunities. I know how it goes, those opportunities will shrink as we get closer and closer to conference."

Cook continued by talking about the performance of his pitching staff during todays doubleheader. "Pitch counts are low right now so we've got to get some guys in. I think overall our pitching has been just fine, but we needed to be a little bit better locating our fastballs today.

"On the defensive side we had a couple of mistakes in the second game that lead to a couple fo unearned runs early, which completely changes that ballgame, "continued Cook. "It would've been a way less stressful game for the guys. But it was good to play a couple of closer games in terms of reps and situations alone. We talk about these things in practice but it's hard to visualize and really feel what those situations are like until you get into them in a live game. Hopefully those experiences will help us create better practice opportunies and get better."

Cook finished by saying he was proud of the guys. "We had some big hits. Jere Burrola with his first college hit and first college homerun. We've had several of those this weekend so I'm gonna be giving away a lot of game balls on Monday for some first college hits/wins/homeruns."

NMMI will try and complete the series sweep with in a single nine-inning game tomorrow vs. the Plainsmen. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm MST and if you can't make to the game, it will be live-strsamed on https://www.ksvptv.com/nmmi-junior-college/
