On Saturday morning, No. 3 New Mexico Military Institute extended their win streak to 18 consecutive matches with a 3-0 win over No.17 New Mexico Junior College. With the win, the Broncos improved to 24-2 on the season with a perfect 10-0 mark in conference play.

Set 1

The Broncos opened the match on fire with a 7-0 run behind the service of Dilean Bounds who picked up a service ace in the process. After a Bronco error, NMJC was able to get their first point on the board to make it 7-1 in the first set.

From that point on, the Broncos would close the first set on a 23-4 run. The home team secured the first set 25-5 as Daicy Benites Franco used a quick dink to outsmart the NMJC blockers and secure the final point of the set for the Broncos.

Set 2

To open the middle set, NMJC found some rhythm and momentum as they took an early 7-4 lead to open the set. Down by three, NMMI flipped a switch and began a run of their own as they took control with a 10-7 lead with the help of a nice block by Benites Franco and Yuliana Favela

Battling back, NMJC tried matching the Broncos points as they hung around. However, the Broncos were able to maintain at least a three-point lead throughout the remainder of the set. NMMI took the middle set, 25-19 as Allison Miller played a perfect ball into the far left corner and secured the set-clinching point for NMMI.

Set 3

In the final set, the Broncos opened the set on a 7-3. With the two-set lead, the Broncos continued their momentum from the first two sets as the offense continued to earn points as the defense continued to dig out almost every ball NMJC attempted to score. The Broncos earned their 20th point of the set with the help of a service error by the Thunderbirds.

Battling towards the finish line, the match concluded with a 6-4 in favor of NMJC but the Broncos were able to secure the final set 25-19 as NMMI outlasted the Thunderbirds on a long rally to secure the victory and improve to a perfect 9-0 at home.

Head Coach Shelby Forchtner was pleased with how the squad performed, "We cleaned up our errors against NMJC, it was a night and day difference," Forchtner said. "We put a lot of emphasis on being better the second round … we're a lot more comfortable and seem to be more smooth and that's what we want." Moving ahead the Broncos need to continue as they have been doing, "We have to continue playing at a high level no matter who is across the net and that's been our focus all year," Forchtner said.

The Broncos return to the court on Wednesday, Oct. 23 as they host Western Texas College at 6 pm in the Cahoon Armory gym.
