Colts dominate Loving High Tuesday night, 64-41

On Tuesday evening New Mexico Military Institute hosted their first game of 2025 as they took on Loving High for the second time this season. Picking up the 64-41 win, the Colts extended their winning streak to four straight and improved to 10-6 overall on the year. While Loving High dips to an overall record of 4-11 with a 0-1 mark in district play.

Q1

To open the game, NMMI’s offense found momentum and rhythm almost instantaneously as they opened the game on a 12-5 run in the first four minutes. Adding to that run was Sawyer Hull, who drilled a three to give the Colts a 7-point lead.

Coming off the bench, Samuel McCargish helped the offense grow their lead to 12 as he scored three of his nine total points. To close out the quarter NMMI’s defense allowed just two points in the final four minutes of the quarter as the Colts ended the first eight minutes of action with a 19-7 lead.

Q2

Up 12 points, the lead continued to grow. The Colts locked in on defense as they forced 12 turnovers in the second period allowing just five points in the quarter. Cole Seidenberger led the way for the NMMI offense in the quarter with seven points. With just under two minutes left in the half, the Colts held a 30-point lead as they led 39-9. With the final shot of the half, Jacob Hayes beat the buzzer to give the Colts a 29-point lead.

Q3

In the third quarter, Loving was able to find some offensive rhythm as they nearly double their point total from the first half as ended the third with 23 points. However, the NMMI offense continued its’ ways from the first half as they continued to find the bottom of the net.

Loving was unable to stop the Colts as they tallied 11 points in the quarter to help maintain their 29-point lead after the third period as they ended the quarter with a 52-23 lead.

Q4

The final quarter was different the first three quarters but Loving was able to establish some offensive rhythm as they notched 18 points in the quarter. NMMI scored just 10 points in the final eight minutes of action but the large lead kept them ahead.

Following the loss, Head Coach of the Loving Falcons, Justin Parraz, found the time to be opportunistic after the loss with a district schedule left to play, “credit here to Coach Williamson and NMMI, they have a great program that plays hard and competes for 32 minutes,” Parraz said. “We’re going to use this game to learn from and head in to district play knowing how we can get better.”

Seidenberger led all Colts with 11 points and eight rebounds while Lorenzo Peral led the way for NMMI with five assists.

NMMI will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 23 as they host Portales JV in the Cahoon Armory Gym at 5:30 p.m.
