Colts crowned as 2025 NMAA Class 3A State Baseball Champions

On Saturday afternoon, New Mexico Military earned its second NMAA Class 3A Baseball Championship in four years – fourth in school history, with a 7-1 win over Robertson High School at the Jennifer Riordan Spark Kindness Sports Complex in Albuquerque, NM. The Colts end the 2025 season at the mountain top, with 13 consecutive wins.

Robertson showed no nerves early on as they opened the game by scoring a run with the help of an RBI-double by the fourth spot batter, Brenen Deisler as the Cardinals enjoyed a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

Answering immediately, NMMI loaded the bases with the first three batters in the bottom of the first. After an out, Nicolas Barcelo Teran delivered a 3-RBI single to put the Colts in the driver’s seat and set the tone for the rest of the contest.

In his final start for the Colts, 2x State Champion, Tegin Maloney started getting loose when he struck out the side in the top of the second inning. In the bottom half, NMMI applied the pressure as they once again loaded the bases. With two outs, Konstatino Scopelitis recorded a base hit, but not without helping two runners score to make it a 5-1 lead. Not shy of the stage, Nicolas Barcelo Teran recorded an RBI-single to give the Colts a five-run advantage.

In the top of the third, Maloney threw just eight pitches as he retired eight consecutive batters through the first three innings. In the bottom of the sixth inning the Colts added some insurance to help their lead. After Tegin Maloney doubled to center field, Nicolas Barcelo Teran notched his third RBI of the game to put the Colts ahead 7-1.

In 100 pitches, Tegin Maloney recorded 15 strikeouts while allowing just one run on four hits.

Head Coach Brad Blackwell on the championship win, “I’m just so proud of my guys, they came out and had one goal in mind: win all three games. They showed up focused and ready to go every single day and the results show. It’s just a testament to how hard these guys and the coaching staff work to be in this spot and perform how we did,” Blackwell said. “I just couldn’t be any happier for this group and this is a special moment I won’t forget.”

Nicolas Barcelo Teran filled up the stat sheet as he hit 3-for-4, with 3-RBIs. Konstatino Scopelitis hit 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.

The Colts run included a 9-0 shutout win over Sandia Prep in the Quarterfinals, a 12-6 win over West Las Vegas in the Semifinals and the 7-1 dominant team performance this afternoon.
