Colts stumble Tuesday night against Artesia, 4-2

On Tuesday night, New Mexico Military Institute moved to 6-5 on the year with a 4-2 loss against Artesia High School at the NMMI Ballpark. With the win, Artesia improves to 7-3 on the year.

Getting the start on the mound, Tegin Maloney opened the game by retiring the first two batters. Artesia used a single and a hit by pitch to get runners on base. Brant Usherwood doubled to shortstop as one of the runs scored for the Bulldogs.

After a scoreless second and third innings for both squads, the Colts opened the bottom of the fourth inning with a lead-off single as Tegin Maloney got on base. After a pair of outs and a walk, Grant Maloney belted the Colts into the lead with a 2-RBI double to give NMMI a 2-1 lead.

However, the Bulldogs responded with a two-out rally. Artesia used back-to-back RBI singles to take the eventual 4-2 lead.

Grant Maloney finished 1-for-3 with 2-RBI double to lead the way for NMMI. In 6.0 innings of work, Tegin Maloney allowed three earned runs while striking out eight batters in the process.

NMMI will return to action on Saturday, March 29 as they host Bosque High School for a doubleheader, staring at 5 p.m. MDT at the NMMI Ballpark.
