Tegin Maloney signs to play baseball for Claremont McKenna College

The Roswell native, Tegin Maloney, inked his name to play at the collegiate level for Claremont McKenna College where he will continue his academic and athlete career in Claremont, CA for the Stangs.

“I’m excited about the education, being one of the top schools. And obviously I’m excited to play baseball at the next level,” Maloney said. “I’ll be in a dual-degree engineering program, while I’m there I’ll be an integrated science major.” While getting there will take dedication and hard work has a plan for the future, “I want to be a biomedical engineer, it’s an interesting career. I want to be able to design prosthetic limbs and make a difference for others,” Maloney said.

Starting his fourth season here at New Mexico Military Institute, the 4x letterman is a three time first team all-state Infielder and Pitcher. His freshman year, the Colts were crowned 2022 NMAA Class 3A Baseball Champions. Maloney is a three time first team all-state Infielder and Pitcher and two time District MVP

In 2023, Maloney helped the Colts finish as the No. 2 seed before stumbling in the state Quarterfinal. Last season, NMMI earned a No. 4 seed in the state playoffs before falling in the quarterfinals.

The duo-sport athlete was a four-year member of the Varsity Football program for the Colts, where he served as one of the team’s captains. Maloney helped the Colts to three State football playoffs, with a spot in the 2023 semi-final. In 2024, Maloney earned all-district first team honors.

Maloney will graduate in May, but NMMI as thought his some valuable lessons. “Learning how to be mature, being way from your parents at 14 has helped with that. With a lot of responsibilities, time management was something that I’ll always be able to use.”

Making thousands memories over the years doesn’t allow for just one favorite memory. “I’ll be broad here and say my entire freshmen year would be my “favorite memory” here at NMMI because I met the group of friends that are still by friends today,” Maloney said.

Maloney thanked his coaches, teammates and members of the Corps for their guidance and friendship. To his family he gave a special thank you for always supporting him and believing in him.

The two time District MVP will be in action on the diamond for Colt Baseball in the spring, as he looks to close out his high school career with another championship ring.
