Colt soccer players earn postseason recognition

Seven Colt soccer players were named to the New Mexico High School Coaches Association Class 3A All-State team.

New Mexico Military Institute finished second at the Class A/3A state tournament after posting an overall record of 15-5-1 and a 5-1 mark in district play.

This marked the second time in two years in which the Colts make an appearance in the state championship match.

Seniors John Zimmerman and Jose Donnadieu were selected to play in the NMHSCA all-star game that took place at the Field of Dreams in Las Cruces back on Nov. 13.

NMHSCA 3A FIRST TEAM ALL-STATE:

>> Humberto Valdez, sophomore: (7 goals, 22 shots, 2 assists, 9 steals)

>> Juan Ortiz, junior: (2 goals, 8 assists, 9 steals)

>> John Zimmerman, senior: (22 goals, 6 assists, 2 steals, 50 points)

>> Jose Donnadieu, senior: (20 goals, 12 assists, 2 steals, 52 points)

SECOND TEAM:

>> Alan Cordova, sophomore: (3 goals, 5 steals)

>> Ben Zimmerman, senior: (8 goals, 12 assists, 2 steals)

>> Jose Padilla, senior: (10 goals, 9 assists, 3 steals)
