
On Thursday evening, New Mexico Military Institute hosted No.12 Midland College at the Cahoon Armory Gym. With a 74-59 loss, the Broncos dip to 0-5 in conference play and 5-13 overall. While No. 12 Midland improves to a perfect 5-0 in conference play with a 15-4 overall mark.

NMMI took the first punch of the game as they took a quick 4-0 lead behind an easy two by Justin Bramao and a pair of free throws by Ignacio Garcia. However, the visiting team would respond with a 10-0 run to make it a 10-4 game with just over 12 minutes remaining in the half.
Throwing another punch, the Broncos responded with a deep three by Joseph Thomas to give the home team their second lead of the night with 10 minutes on the clock. A few possession later, the Broncos were able to make it a 17-14 advantage with the help of a pair of free throws by Thomas.
With 7:10 left in the half, Clarendon was able to end the half on a 14-4 run and head into halftime with a 28-21 lead.

In the second half, the No. 12 team in the land were able to maintain at least a four-point lead to close out the game. Following a NMMI mistake, the Chaparrals were able to jump out to a 33-25 with 17 minutes remaining in the game. However, every time the Broncos found the bottom of the net, Midland was able to respond with a couple buckets of their own.
With just over 13 minutes left, Midland took a commanding 12-point lead after Grigorjie Avramovic sunk a three to give the visiting team a 44-32 advantage. With some fight, NMMI was able to cut the deficit to just six after Thomas knocked down another three as the Broncos trailed 52-46 with eight minutes left.
As they did the first half, Midland ended the final eight minutes of action on a 22-13 run as they outscored the Broncos with a final of 74-59.
Joseph Thomas led all Broncos with 20 points, shooting 4-for-8 from deep. On the glass, Bramao led all players with 11 boards. Ignacio Garcia added 13 points for the Broncos while shooting a perfect 7-for-7 at the charity stripe. Both Garcia and Thomas each tallied three assist for NMMMI.
As a team, the Broncos shot a season-high 90 percent from the free throw line and forced 15 total turnovers. NMMI was held to 34 percent shooting from the field while Midland shot 52 percent from the field.
The Broncos will return to action on Monday, Jan. 27 as they host Clarendon College in the Cahoon Armory Gym at 6:30 p.m. MST.
