
On Thursday evening, New Mexico Military Institute improved to 5-8 on the year with a 88-59 win over Strength N' Motion Prep. With back-to-back wins, the Broncos look to enter conference play on a win streak.

Off the tip, the visiting team didn't shy away as they jumped out to a 17-12 lead near the 14-minute mark in the opening half. The Broncos would go on their own 7-2 run as David Popa knotted the game at 19 with a deep three.
From that point on, NMMI raced out to their largest lead of the game after Mitchell Schooley drilled a three and Ignacio Garcia nailed a pair of free throws to give NMMI a 41-32 advantage. In the first half, both Taye Williams and Siosiua Tu'akoi chipped in with nine points each to lead the way for NMMI.

Up seven to open the second period, the Broncos wasted no time growing their lead. Garcia caught fire and scored seven quick points to put NMMI ahead 50-36 after converting on his three-point play opportunity at the free-throw line.
The NMMI defense was able to settle in and force six turnovers in the second period. Joseph Thomas found his rhythm in the second half, scoring all of his 15 points in the second half to help the Broncos to a 30-point lead with over three minutes remaining in the contest.
Leaving his mark in the second half, Devon Carter contributed with a three-pointer and a reverse slam for five of his seven total points.
Five different Broncos scored double figures, while Thomas led the way with 15 points and three assists on 5-for-9 shooting.
The Broncos will return to action on Friday, Jan. 3 at 1 pm as they host ABC Prep in the Cahoon Armory Gym for their final non-conference matchup of the season.
