The Lady Colt Varsity Volleyball squad took a short trip to Gateway Christian School Thursday, falling to the undefeated Lady Warriors 25-15, 25-17 and 25-10.

Despite a second-consecutive straight-set loss, NMMI head coach Chantale Riddle was pleased with her team’s effort against a tough-serving Gateway squad.

“The last game at Loving, we struggled a little bit with energy and motivation,” Riddle said. “Today we played hard. It didn’t feel like we lost by as much as we did. We were trying, fighting, getting good digs on the rallies. I’m proud of them.”

Riddle shook up her starters against Gateway, going with senior Emily Spaniel and junior Paulina Sanchez in the middle, senior Olive Amechi and sophomore Alana Kanui on the outside, senior Alex Kammerer setting and junior Anastasia Ament at opposite.

“We struggled a little bit in serve receive, but overall I think we played really good defense,” Riddle said. “Hopefully we can stick with this lineup and continue to improve.”

The Lady Colts (4-5) travel to Hondo for a rare Monday matchup with the Lady Eagles (3-3) at 5 p.m.
