Lady Colts sweep Hondo Valley in three sets

The New Mexico Military Institute Lady Colt volleyball team collected their first win of the new season, defeating the host Hondo Valley Eagles in three straight sets. 

The Lady Colts took the first set 25-10, then things got a little interesting in the second set with a 26-24 victory, and completed the sweep with a third set victory of 25-18. 

Although Lady Colt head coach Stephanie Schooley was excited about her team getting their first win of the season, she does see some areas for continued improvement for the Lady Colts. 

“The girls did a good job tonight,” said Schooley. “It is always good to get that first game under our belts to see some of our strengths and, of course, to see the areas we need to continue to work on.  We are still trying to figure out the best lineup for this group of girls and the girls are still learning to communicate and gel as a team. Those things will hopefully come together as the season progresses.” 

After savoring the win, the Lady Colts will have a week to practice and prepare for a Hondo rematch, this time on their home court in the Godfrey Athletic Center on Tuesday, August 28th at 4:30 PM.
