The Lady Colts extended their consecutive set win streak to 15 with a 3-0 win over visiting Hondo Valley Tuesday afternoon at the Godfrey Athletic Center.

“I think this game was a good confidence booster,” said NMMI head coach Chantale Riddle. “And it doesn’t matter who you’re playing — it takes a lot of consistency and effort to not lose a set for five games.”

The Lady Eagles struggled to receive NMMI serves or offer up decent service from their side, leading to lopsided set scores — 25-6, 25-10 and 25-7.

Freshman outside hitter Kaytlyn Lackey showed off her accuracy with several cross-court kills to the back corner, newcomers Vitoria Assis and Sarah Pires continued to show offensive improvement and several players had long serving streaks.

NMMI hasn’t lost a match or set since an 0-3 home loss against Gateway Christian School on Sept. 14 and they’ll put their streak on the line against those same Lady Warriors on Thursday at GCS’s Red Rock Center gym at 6:30 p.m.

“We have to play better than we have to beat them, but Tatum took them to four sets and we watched them play — they are beatable,” Riddle said. “I think we are pretty evenly matched. It’s going to be about who wants it more and I think we are really starting to want it.”

After Gateway, the Lady Colts have one more tune-up against the Roswell High C-Team before the district schedule begins.
