The Lady Colt volleyball team got back on the winning track Saturday at the Warrior Invitational, winning matches against Lake Arthur and Carrizozo in three sets each.

NMMI took control of the first match of the day by defeating the Panthers 25-7, 25-20, 25-4 in three sets. This was the second time that the Colts and Panthers have met during the season and NMMI has taken both matches in three sets.

In the consolation championship match, the Colts faced off against the Grizzlies.

NMMI didn't trail much during the match, but it remained close throughout. The big turning point was in the second set where the Institute was down 19-18 and ended the set on a 7-3 run to give them the 25-22 victory and put them up 2-0 in sets. The Colts continued the momentum they had at the end of the second set to take the consolation championship in three sets.

Coach Stephanie Schooley was pleased with her team in the day’s matches.

“We played a lot of volleyball this weekend, and I am proud of the way the girls played as a team the entire day,” she said

The Colts next match will be against Mescalero Tuesday at 5 p.m. in Godfrey Athletic Center at NMMI.
