The New Mexico Military Institute Colt soccer team defeated the Hatch Valley Bears 5-1 at NMMI Stapp Parade Field on Tuesday night.

This victory gives the Colts a 4-0 record in district play and their 11th straight win improving their record to 15-1-1 on the season.

NMMI got the ball in the back of the net early, taking a 1-0 lead just four minutes into the first period off of the boot of Quan Nguyen, assisted by Frank Olcott.

Olcott then scored five minutes later off a pass from Jose Donnadieu Ortega to go up 2-0.

NMMI managed one more goal before the end of the half; in the 39th minute, Daniel Angulo juked the Hatch keeper in a 1-on-1 breakaway, the assist going to Sebastian Ponce Rios.

Angulo kept his hot boot going in the second half. In the 60th minute he scored his second goal of the match, then collected an assist on John Zimmerman’s goal in the 67th minute for the Colts final point.

“It’s a game of momentum.” said head Colt soccer coach John Barbour. “Anytime you get off to a good start it builds for the rest of the matchA few times we started to slip, but we made some adjustments and got back on track. We like to come out early and get the first goal if we can and we did that tonight. We will be looking forward to work hard in practice this week. We are not satisfied with where we are right now. We have two more games and we hope to come out victorious in those.”

The two matches the Colts have are against district opponents. The Colts last home game of the regular season will be Saturday at 3:00 PM and then they will finish off against Hatch Valley in Hatch on Tuesday, October 22nd at 6:00 PM.
