Colts remain undefeated in district with win over Socorro

The New Mexico Military Institute Colt soccer team kept their district record unblemished, downing the visiting Socorro Warriors 6-1.

NMMI got the hat-trick in goals in the first half to take a 3-0 lead before the break.

Daniel De Rueda had the first score for the Institute, a header over the Socorro keeper, at the the 11 munite mark.

David Portugal struck next about six minutes later. 

De Rueda got his second goal of the match just before the clock wound down in the first half.

Five minutes into the second period, Portugal also earned his second score, and it remained 4-0 in favor of the Colts all the way until the 32nd minute, when Nicholas Barcena got a goal after a previous shot attempt rebounded off the Socorro keeper.

The Warriors broke their scoring drought shortly after.

NMMI final goal came at the tail end of the contest, with Sawyer Hull connecting from long range, about 25 yards out.

With the win, NMMI moves to 9-3 on the season and 3-0 in district play.

Next up is another home district match-up, with the Colts taking on Hatch Valley next Tuesday, Oct. 10, first kick expected at 5:00 pm.
