The New Mexico Military Institute Colt football team defeated Hot Springs High School 34-12 on Friday at Colt Field on the campus of NMMI.

The Colts scored at the 10:40 mark of the first quarter of the game on a 46-yard rush by Charles Lewis to give the Colts a 7-0 lead.

NMMI's next score came after pinning Hot Springs to their one yard line: NMMI's Roberto Laporte recovered a Tiger fumble in the end zone for a touchdown with 6:09 left to go in the first quarter.

The Tigers got their first touchdown in the second quarter, but the Colts answered back on a Jalil Brown reverse for 36 yards for the score and a 21-6 lead at the half.

Charles Lewis scored his second touchdown in the third quarter on a 38-yard scamper to give the Colts a 28-12 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

NMMI was the only team to score in the fourth as Daniel Xibille rushed in from 30 yards away to give NMMI a 34-12 victory.

The Colts had 389 yards on the ground for the game while combining 400+ yards on offense for the game and an average gain of 10.1 yards per play.

Charles Lewis ran the ball eight times for 163 yards and two touchdowns. Jasper Best had 92 yards on 13 rushing attempts and Jalil Brown carried eight times for 84 yards and a touchdown.

Head Colt Football coach Randy Montoya was pleased with the team after the game.

Coach Montoya said, “The kids ran and blocked hard. It was a team effort and we played a quality opponent in our classification. Brown and Lewis made some highlight reel plays out there for us tonight, but it all starts with the offensive line they did a great job tonight.”

The Colts play the Loving Falcons in loving next Friday on the 28th of September at 7:00 PM.

Montoya said, “If we keep running the ball like we have been we have a shot to win, but we will look at Loving and see what they are all about in the next week.”
