Broncos win big after break

The New Mexico Military Institute Bronco basketball team ended their Thanksgiving break early to play a pair of home games this weekend in the Bronco Classic, winning their contest on Friday by big numbers over the University of the Southwest JV, 111-76.

Every player on the Institute squad put points on the board, lead by the double-double of freshman post Jonathan Salazar with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Three other Bronco players posted double-digits in the scoring column: Luis Riascos Varon with 14, Latik Murphy with 12, and Isaiah Williams with 11.

NMMI did a good job controlling the ball, especially in the second half, committing just 13 turnovers. They also dominated the boards, outrebounding the Mustangs 55-25.

With the win, the Broncos even up their record to 5-5 on the season. They'll host Eastern Arizona College tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 pm in the Godfrey Athletic Center gym, to close out the post-turkey classic.
