Coming off a tough loss to top-ranked South Plains College the other night, the New Mexico Military Institute Bronco basketball team rebounded against Midland College on Thursday night.

Behind 51 combined points from Khaleb Wilson-Rouse, Furaha Cadeaux de Dieu and Jeremiah Barr, NMMI put together a 95-67 rout of the Chaps at the Godfrey Athletic Center.

One key aspect was the Broncos owned the glass, out rebounding Midland 47-29.

"I thought we did a better job of doing some things defensively but we still got some things we (need) to work on," said NMMI head coach Sean Schooley. "The rebounding makes all the difference. If we rebound, you always give yourself a chance."

After a pair of free throws made by Cadeaux de Dieu, the Broncos led 10-5 with 16 minutes in the opening half.

A three-pointer from Tarren Burrola and a pair of shots in the paint by Wilson-Rouse increased NMMI's lead to 15.

The Broncos (4-7, 3-5) led by as much as 18 with two minutes to go until the break.

NMMI continued its consistency into the second half, holding a 16-point lead after Cadeaux de Dieu made another shot in the paint with 17:13 on the clock.

Midland was able to chisel down the deficit to within nine after a three-pointer from Tyler Brinkman, but the Broncos picked up the energy once more to take another double-digit lead.

A key three from Nicolas Girondin and some easy buckets in the paint by Barr, Wilson-Rouse and John Mapiou helped NMMI increase the lead to 72-54.

The Broncos shot 55 percent from the field in the second half.

Midland (1-11, 0-11) was plagued by 26 turnovers which caused the final two points of the game as Nadjrick Peat slammed down a two-handed dunk to finish off the game.

Wilson-Rouse tallied 21 points, a trio of 3-pointers and two assists while Cadeaux de Dieu had 18 points and eight rebounds.

Barr chipped in with 12 points, eight boards, three assists and two steals.

Jordan Nelson had eight points and Mapiou tallied four assists and three steals in addition to his seven points.

Midland's Steven Richardson tallied 17 points while Brinkman and RJ Smith each finished with 14.

NMMI has six games remaining in the regular season, four being at home. The Broncos travel to Levelland, Texas, at 2:45 p.m. Saturday for another game against South Plains.

"I thought Jay'veon Coleman stepped up and did some good stuff," Schooley added. "There's no such thing as a bad win. In this league you have to protect your home court.

"Proud of the guys. They showed their athleticism and their desire."
