NMMI (11-7) earned their second consecutive WJCAC win Monday evening against Midland College (5-14) outscoring the Chaparrals 82-76 to improve their conference record to 2-3.

"We took care of business on the road at South Plains last week," said head coach Ralph Davis. "Tonight's goal was to do the same here at home vs. Midland. We're very excited that we came out and performed and got this victory."

The Broncos opened the game with an 11-0 run with less than four minutes expired in the first half, thanks in large part to back-to-back three-pointers by Jordyn Owens. NMMI went cold from the field shortly after allowing the Chaps to come back.

Midland put together a 14-5 run to tie the game at 16-16 with eight minutes remaining in the first half.

"We were in control most of this game - built a solid lead at the beginning," said Davis. "We let that lead slip a bit a few times, but stayed on top and got the finish."

The Broncos and Chaps traded buckets to finish the half with NMMI taking a 34-29 lead heading into halftime.

At the start of the second half, the Institute extended their lead in the first two minutes and never lost it thanks to two made free throws by Rosel Hurley and a three-pointer by Davis Steelman, making the score 40-29.

With eight minutes left in the game, Midland cut the lead to 67-64, but that was as close as they would get; NMMI finished out the game strong with a flurry of late buckets by Trevelin Queen.

NMMI had three players in double-figures with Queen leading all scorers with 31 points. Atem Bior netted 14 and Owens finished with 11.

The Broncos will put their two-game win streak on the line Thursday as they take on the Plainsmen in Borger, TX at 6:30 PM MST.

"Next up is Frank Phillips," said Davis. "That's our next goal, to go down there and play with the same intensity: solid defense and solid on the glass."
