After a 0-3 record last weekend at the Thunderbird Classic, the NMMI Bronco Basketball team bounced back with a 126-83 win against Strength 'N Motion Prep.

Although the Broncos were up big, Coach Ralph Davis was not pleased with the intensity of his players.

"We got up early 30-10 and then we kind of took the gas off," said Davis "but we ended up winning by a large margin."

Davis mentioned that before each game, the team sets goals and one of those goals was to shoot better from the charity stripe.

"I am most proud of the way we shot free throws. We went 20-23 tonight and the previous three games we shot below 60 percent," said Davis.

Those missed foul shots hurt the Broncos in last Saturday's double-overtime loss to New Mexico Junior College.

Davis said, "I am excited that we got back to knocking some shots down from the free throw line and hopefully we can get on a streak here."

If the Broncos continue to reach their game goals, that will be a major key to having a successful season.

Sophomore Trevelin Queen led all scorers with 26 points and Australia native Atem Bior finished with 22.

"Bior really stepped up for us tonight and Queen as well. It is good to get momentum in these non-conference games and having our kids feel good heading into conference play," said Davis.

NMMI will be on the road Thursday as they take on Wayland Baptist JV in Plainview, TX at 6:00 PM CST.
