Yamamoto earns NJCAA DI Defensive Player of the Week

After a stellar performance over the weekend in Odessa, TX, sophomore Libero Mio Yamamoto was named the National Junior College Athletic Association's Division I Player of the Week. The All-American had 108 digs during the Broncos 3-1 run at the tourney, bringing her season total to 206, good for second in the nation. Yamamoto chipped in on offense as well, serving up five aces.

"We have had a lot of really good liberos come through NMMI so I don't want to take away from those studs, but Mio is one of the smoothest that I have ever coached," said Bronco Volleyball head coach Shelby Forchtner. "She practices like she plays, she gives everything to the game that she can, and she still expects more of herself."

The No. 2 Broncos (8-1) hit the road again for a Thursday-Saturday (Sept. 1-3) tournament in Prescott, Arizona where they'll play four matches, including a showdown with No. 3 Snow College.
