Colts & Lady Colts improve as district meet approaches

The Colts and Lady Colts continued to build towards the district meet during the Roswell Indpendent School District's second track and field event of the season Tuesday afternoon at the Wool Bowl.

Among the strongest performances for the Lady Colts was junior Isabella Moya, who finished second in the 3200 meter run with a time of 15:07, 21 seconds behind the first-place runner from East Mountain.

The girls 4x800 relay and 1600 sprint medley relay teams finished second, again behind the speedy teams from East Mountain.

Senior Eva Gerou cleared 8-foot-6 in the pole vault, tied with the only other competitor on site, from Goddard High School.

Junior Anastasia Ament finished ninth in shot put, junior Kassandra Carpignana took seventh in the discus throw, and junior Serenity Oates finished 12th throwing the javelin.

On the boys side, sophomore Cale Taylor won the 3200 meter run with a time of 11:40.68, 10 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher from East Mountain.

Sophomore Jacob Hayes took second in the 800 meter run with a time of 2.19.67, two seconds better than his previous best.

Senior Ethan Roland finished 7th and freshman Miguel Garcia finished 9th in the 300 meter hurdles.

The boys 4x100 and 4x200 meter relay teams took third and the 1600 meter medley team finished second.

Ethan took third in the pole vault with a heigh of 7-foot-6 inches and Garcia finished sixth in the triple jump at 34 feet, 3 inches.

Junior Matthew McCargish took fourth in the discuss and shot put and sophomore Jonas Pope finished fourth in the javelin.

Freshman Fidel Mukeh finished fourth in the long jump and took 10th in the crowded fields for both the 100 and 200 meter dash.

The District 4-3A meet will take place Friday, April 28 in Dexter. The state meet is May 5-6 at the University of New Mexico Track & Field Complex in Albuquerque.
