The Lady Colt Basketball team suffered another huge loss Tuesday night at the Godfrey Athletic Center, falling behind 12-0 in the first quarter and going on to lose 65-32 to the visiting Ruidoso Lady Warriors.

Senior forward Emily Spaniel led NMMI with 17 points, most of which came in the second half. Senior forward Olive Amechi had another 10 point night and senior guard Alahana Picos chipped in with three.

The Lady Colts didn’t score double-digits in a quarter until the final period where they scored nearly half their point total.

Much like the Gateway Lady Warriors last night, these Lady Warriors put the pressure on NMMI from baseline to baseline, forcing turnovers and making it very difficult to find open passing lanes or get an open shot.

Ruidoso senior point guard Gabriella Portillo scored a game-high 31 points, including seven 3s and 2-of-5 from the charity stripe.

The Lady Colts (2-6, 0-1 in District 4-3A) have their next two district games at home, but must then finish out the season with three-straight road contests.

Tucumcari comes to town Thursday for a 4:30 p.m. matchup at the Godfrey.
