Sam McCargish wins state powerlifting title

Five NMMI athletes qualified for the 2024 NMAA Boys Powerlifting State Championships at the Rio Rancho Events center over the weekend, with three earning podium finishes, including a state championship for junior Sam McCargish.

McCargish tallied 1,225 pounds across the three lifts — squat, bench and deadlift — in the 308lb weight class.

Junior Alex Sanchez of Roswell took third place in the 165lb class with a total weight of 1,075 pounds, a 30-pound improvement from his only other recorded meet results back on March 2.

Sophomore William Seifert of Socorro finished third in the 220lb class with a total lift of 1,160 pounds, a 75-pound improvement from his March 2 results.

Senior Gabriel Richardson competed in the 242lb class and senior William Rosser qualified for state in the 220lb class, but was unable to attend the meet.
