Alvis enters her second season at NMMI as the assistant Colt volleyball and girls basketball coach.

She obtained her bachelors degree from New Mexico State University and a master's in educational leadership and administration from the University of Texas-Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas in 2007.

Alvis began her teaching and coaching career with the Ector County Independent School District in Odessa in 1981 where she spent 30 years of her career. Four of those years were spent as an athletic trainer.

She also spent two years as an assistant principal within the ECISD from 2008-2011.

Alvis then became a principal for the Dexter Consolidated Schools from 2011 to 2012. She then returned to Texas where she worked for the Bryan Independent School District for three years where was an associate teacher, campus intervention coach and English language arts teacher.

For five months in 2013, she was a student teacher supervisor for the kinesiology department at Texas A&M University-Texarkana.

Alvis is a 1976 graduate of Kirtland Central High School.
