The New Mexico Military Institute Colt soccer team defeated the Lovington Wildcats 4-1 at NMMI Stapp Field on Tuesday.

Both teams had opportunities in the first half but could not capitalize, thanks to great defensive play by both squads.

NMMI got on the board first nine minutes into the second half on a bloop shot that went over the Lovington goalie and into the net off the foot of Jose Donnadieu, giving the Colts the 1-0 lead.

The next three goals came from Daniel Angulo as the mid-fielder collected a hat trick in the second half to give the Colts the 4-1 victory.

Head soccer coach John Barbour was pleased with what he saw on the pitch today, but noted some improvements need to be made.

Barbour said, “We were looking forward to tonight, because we not sure how good we were and we wanted to see. I have to give credit to Lovington - they really brought it and they tested us in the first half. They had a lot of opportunities - if they had put some shots in goal, this could have been a different result. We know we have to work hard for this next week and a half. We have Clovis next Thursday, and the Coyote Classic afterwards.”

The Colts will take on Clovis on September 5th at 6:00 PM on NMMI’s Stapp Field.
