The New Mexico Military Institute Colt soccer team was defeated by the St. Michaels Horsemen 1-0 (4-2 in penalty shootout) after four 10 minute overtimesin the A - 3A State Championship game at Bernalillo Soccer Complex on Friday.

The Colts had numerous chances throughout the game, but could not find the back of the net. In the eighth minute Andres Bleizeffer hit the left post and in the third overtime Alejandro Barcenas hit the crossbar on a header from a corner kick.

The goals in the penalty shootout were from Bleizeffer and Jose Donnadieu.

“We struggled to find the back of the net,” said head Colt soccer coach John Barbour. “If you don’t finish with all of the opportunities you will have a hard time winning any game. This was a struggle throughout the whole tournament this year. Overall I am very proud of our team. We have players from all over the world on this team. They came together as a group and played their hearts out. We will have to work harder next year and hopefully we will be back here in 2020.”
