Colts season ends in second round of state tournament

The Colt soccer team saw their season come to a close Wednesday as they fell to No. 1 seed Sandia Prep 3-0 at Bernalillo Soccer Complex during the second round of the state tournament.

The Sun Devils scored in the first five minutes of the game to take an early 1-0 lead. The Colts didn't give up another goal until late in the second half when Sandia Prep scored two goals in the span of 10 minutes to give them the 3-0 victory and move on in the state tournament.

 “The guys gave everything they had out there todaym" said coach John Barbour. "Sandia Prep capitalized on their chances and we did not. That was the difference in the match.”

NMMI was the only higher seed to advance from the first round from 3A as the other favorites moved on from the first round.

The Colts end their season with a record of 7-9-1 (2-3-1) including the victory in Socorro in the first round of state.
