The New Mexico Military Institute Colt football team defeated the Hagerman Bobcats 17-8 in Hagerman on Friday evening.

Two big plays were the story for the game. The Colts started off the game receiving the kickoff and Jalil Brown returned the kick off 85 yards for the Colt touchdown to give them an early 7-0 lead.

The other big play was a pick six by Jorge Iruretagoyena for 60 yards for a touchdown. The Colts would tack on a field goal as time ran out for the half to head into the locker room up 17-0.

The Bobcats would score in the final seconds of the game to avoid the shutout as the Colts win 17-8.

Head football coach Randy Montoya was pleased with his defense.

"I am proud of the way the defense played, said Montoya it took them a little while to get used to the speed Hagerman brings to the field."

Coach Montoya said to win games the players need to take care of the football.

"We can't have mistakes on offense like we did today, said Montoya we have to limit the mistakes and get better at protecting the football."

The Colts next game will be home against the Hot Springs Tigers (3-1) at Colt Field.
