The New Mexico Military Institute Colt football team defeated the Tucumcari Rattlers 30-0 at Colt Field on Friday night.

The win brings the Colts to 6-4 on the season and 1-2 in Class 3A District 4 standings.

The Colts got on the board first after the Rattlers went three and out to start the game. Daniel Xibille led NMMI on a seven play 55 yard drive which ended on a one yard rush by Xibille with 5:57 left in the first quarter. After another three and out stand by the defense Xibille added a 39 yard field goal at the end of the quarter for the Colts to go up 10-0.

Andrew Oldfield hit pay dirt next for the Colts to cap an eight play 50 yard drive and give NMMI the 16-0 lead with 6:11 until halftime. NMMI compiled a six play 76 yard drive to score with a minute left before the half. Xibille hit Gus Curnutt in the flat and he did the rest to get into the end zone for a 24-0 Colt lead. NMMI converted the two point conversion on a Xibille pass to Diego Hernandez.

NMMI’s last score happened on their first drive of the second half as Carlos Retamoza found the end zone from 21 yards out to give the Colts the 30-0 victory.

Gus Curnutt led the Colts in receiving with 47 yards on three receptions and a touchdown. Riley Robertson and Dixon Doherty had five tackles each for NMMI.

The NMMI defense held Tucumcari to 98 total yards and four first downs for the game. The Colts kept the Rattlers under three yards per play.

“I’m just happy for the team,” said head Colt football coach Randy Montoya. “We were able to get everybody in and get some playing time mainly for our seniors this was senior night and their last guaranteed game and we wanted to make sure we went out on a positive note. The kids played well and I am just tickled to death that we came away with another victory.”
