On a cold and windy Friday afternoon the New Mexico Military Institute Bronco baseball team defeated the Eastern New Mexico University Greyhound JV team 12-5 and 20-1 in a double header at the NMMI Ballpark.

In Game 1, the Greyhounds put the first runs on the board, scoring a pair in the top of the first.

The Broncos answered back from their rocky start on the mound, plating three of their own runs in the bottom half of the stanza, giving them a 3-2 lead after one inning.

The big inning for the Broncos was the fourth where they scored five of the nine runs in the remainder of the game.

The Game 1 victory went to Rafael Perez Guzman who gave up no hits in four innings of relief while striking out seven Greyhounds. The save was credited to Jake Rutten who gave up one run in three innings of relieve with three strikeouts.

In Game 2, NMMI pitching was rock-solid, holding the Greyhounds to just four hits and one run in five innings of play.

NMMI tallied 12 of their runs in a huge second inning, with Bronco bats combining five walks with five hits, including an RBI triple by Brandon Evans.

Starting pitcher Gerry Lerma, Jr. earned the win in the second game, hurling the first three innings while striking out six and allowing two hits.

Gabriel Perez Torres had a big doubleheader at the plate for the Broncos with two triples in the two game span, going 3-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs and three runs scored.

"We were a little sloppy in Game 1," said Head Bronco baseball coach Chris Cook. "We did what we needed to do and scored more runs than they did. Game 2 we did a lot better at throwing strikes and making their hitters put the ball in play."

The Broncos will play another double header against ENMU JV tomorrow starting at 12 PM.
