Lady Colts start season 3-0

The NMMI Lady Colt basketball team kept their unblemished record intact, moving to 3-0 on the season after taming the Lake Arthur Panthers at home on Tuesday, 53-11.

Every player on the Institute squad got playing time, with NMMI running out to an 18-0 after the initial period and a 32-2 margin by halftime.

Point-leader for the Lady Colts was senior forward Demitra Ulibarri with 16. Sophomore guard Rilan Maloney knocked down 11, including a 1-for-1 performance from behind the arc. Soph guard Tianna Tsosie had six. Three players posted four: junior guard Madison Sandoval, freshman forward Chinami Davis, and freshman forward Celeste Martin. Four Colts had two each: junior guard Miranda Garcia, junior forward Christen Ellenburg, freshman forward Kiara Knowles, and junior forward Jaylene Moore.

Top rebounding honors for NMMI ended up tied, with Ellenburg and Martin each pulling down seven.

The Lady Colts will take their perfect record on the road for a match in Loving against the Falcons on Thursday, Jan. 17, then return to play Goddard High’s C team at home on Monday, Jan. 21. Tip-off for both of those games is slated for 5:00 PM.
