The New Mexico Military Institute Colt basketball team fell to Roswell High School JV team 65-47 at Roswell High School on Saturday.

It was a tale of two halves for both teams. NMMI jumped to an 11-1 run to start the first quarter. Daniel Xibille started the Colt run with a three pointer from the corner. The Coyotes would end the quarter on a 9-5 run to cut the Colt lead to 15-10 at the end of the first quarter.

The run streak continued for both teams as out of the gate for the second quarter the Colts scored six straight points to give them a 21-10 lead. Roswell High would once again end the quarter on a 13-7 run to make the game 28-23 at the half in favor of NMMI.

In the third quarter the Coyotes would tie the game 34-34 with 2:35 on the scoreboard and end the rest of the third quarter on a 9-2 run for a 41-36 Coyote lead.

Roswell High continued hitting threes in the fourth quarter as they hit five of their total 12 three pointers in the fourth to give them a 65-47 victory.

Colts leading scorer of the game was Hector Reyna with 20 points. Roswell High’s Dayton Gonzalez also had 20 points to lead the Coyotes in scoring.

Head Colt Basketball Coach Connor Williamson liked what he saw from his team in the first half, but gave credit to the Coyotes in the second half.

Williamson said, “In the first half I liked what I saw from our guys, but in the second half Roswell High started making their three’s.”

The next game for the Colts will be at Mescalero Apache on Tuesday, January 22nd at 7:00 PM
