Broncos headed to nationals

ODESSA, TX – The NMMI Bronco volleyball team added a Region V West Conference Tournament Championship along with their perfect 10-0 conference record.

The Broncos defeated Midland College for the third time this season 25-22, 26-16 and 25-20.

Head Coach Shelby Forchtner said, "We have played Midland in nine sets now and eight of the nine sets have been won or lost by two or three points. They are a very competitive team."

Even though NMMI won the match, they started off sluggish.

Forchtner said, "We have had to come from behind a ton this season. Something happens where we start

the game down 7-1, call a timeout, call some people out and then they start doing their jobs effectively."

During the timeout, NMMI regrouped and once they hit the floor they never looked back sweeping, Midland College in three sets.

This is the Broncos second consecutive trip to nationals and they hope to have a better outing this time.

Forchtner said, "I am really excited about this team because we have played a lot of nationally ranked schools this season and have gone to four or five games with them and beat some."

"They deserve to be here and it will be fun to go watch them compete at that level and see what we can do," said Forchtner.

NMMI's main focus will be on winning their first match and making a run into the top eight.
