On Saturday afternoon, the NMMI Bronco volleyball team beat Odessa College three sets to one and finished with a perfect 10-0 record in the WJCAC clinching the regular season title.

This is the first time in program history that NMMI finished with a perfect conference record.

Coach Shelby Forchtner said, "It is an awesome feeling to do something that has never been done here at NMMI and this will be a very special group for us."

Coming into the season Forchtner knew she recruited well, but she did not know how well.

"Once all the kids got in here, our dynamic and culture just meshed really well and this allowed us to be successful."

"We are playing very well in the month of October and I hope we take the momentum from the entire month into this weekend," said Forchtner.

NMMI will be traveling to Odessa, Texas as the No.1 seed in the WJCAC Region V West Tournament.

"We have a first-round bye and will play the winner of Western Texas College versus Frank Phillips on Friday evening and we will be there watching," said Forchtner.

Forchtner will be preparing for both schools this week, as they will have certain practices for both teams.

Forchtner said, "At practice, we will focus on WTC one day and then FPC the next to prepare for any situation that might come up."

As the last home game of the regular season for the Broncos, seven sophomores were honored before the match.

"Some of them are very dynamic on the floor and have started and played in every game the past two years and then some are not so dynamic on the floor, but they bring so much to the table. This group of girls is very diverse and I think that's what has been so beneficial for us this year," said Forchtner.
