Odessa, TX – The NMMI Bronco volleyball team went 3-1 this weekend at the Odessa Invitational.

Friday morning the Broncos took on Blinn College and lost the match in 5 sets 25-19, 16-25, 23-25, 25-22 and 12-15.

Coach Shelby Forchtner commented, "I feel like we aren't playing real consistent and that is why we are dropping games that we shouldn't. Epically Saturday morning, we started off game one really strong. We were playing really good defense, blocking some balls and we were playing pretty good offensively, but we didn't take that into game two and three at all."

NMMI would go on to lose set two and three, but rally to force a deciding game five match.

"We had the lead in game four, but then we would lose it and then come back. That is what happened to us on the fifth set as well. I think our team is a little inconsistent and we don't have anyone standing out right now", said Forchtner.

The Broncos would turn things around against Eastfield College and win the match in three straight sets 25-21, 25-21 and 25-19.

"We are super error prone. If we can get to a point to where we are not making a lot of errors we can beat some really good teams. By minimizing our errors, we could be beating teams the way we should and not give up a set here and there." Forchtner said.

They would finish 1-1 on the day.

On Saturday, NMMI would take on Temple College and Barton College to go 2-0 on the day and 3-1 at the tournament.

NMMI started the morning off early as they played Temple College at 8:00 AM MDT, which is the earliest game they will play all year.

The Broncos got off to an early start by winning two sets in a row 25-5 and 25-20, However, they would drop set three 25-21 and win the match in the fourth set 25-13.

In the final game of the day, the Broncos would take on Barton College.

Forchtner said, "This game is the first game since Snow that we had a good energy. Our bench was feeding off the floor and the floor was feeding off the bench, it just seemed like we were clicking."

The Broncos rolled over Barton in three sets 25-16, 25-17 and 25-20 to finish the tournament 3-1 and 2-0 on the day.

"Our offense was doing really good and our serve receive was good. I felt like everything we did out there was good except our blocking. We are a really good blocking team and for some reason, we did not block well these four games and we didn't block well against Clarendon.  So it's been five games straight, but we blocked well in Arizona," said Forchtner.

NMMI will host their first home conference match of the season against Frank Phillips College at 7:00 PM on Wednesday.

Forchtner said, "We were able to play Frank in a scrimmage and actually beat them, but you just never know because they have been together for several weeks and they could be a totally different team. I think every conference match for us is going to be a competitive game."
