The New Mexico Military Institute Lady Colt basketball team defeated the Artesia JV Lady Bulldogs 45-30 at Godfrey Athletic Center on Monday night. The win gives the Lady Colts their fifth straight victory of the season and overall moves them to 8-4 on the year.

The game was even after the first quarter as the score was 8-8. The Lady Colts were down 14-13 when they started a 14-0 run that began midway through the second quarter until 27 seconds left in the third quarter to give NMMI a 30-16 lead at the end of three quarters. The Lady Colts and Lady Bulldogs would each have their best quarter scoring in the fourth, but the Lady Colts would win the game 45-30.

Tianna Tsosie led the Lady Colts in scoring with 17 points. She also had three steals and one assist. Demitra Ulibarri recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. She also recorded six steals and five blocks.

“I thought we shot the ball well and played really good defense,” said Head Lady Colt basketball coach Marisha Olesinski. “The girls were very patient today. They were moving the ball well and taking open shots. We need to work on turnovers a little bit more, but overall the girls played great tonight.”

The Lady Colts next game will be at Dexter on Thursday, February 7th at 5:00 PM.
