The New Mexico Military Institute Colt soccer team dropped a match against Hatch Valley 5-2 on the campus of NMMI on Friday.

The first goal was by the Colts Francisco Perez on a penalty kick during the ninth minute of play to give them a 1-0 lead.

The rest of the half was controlled by Hatch as they scored three unanswered goals before half to bring the score to 3-1 in favor of Hatch.

The Bears would score one more goal before the Colts would get a hustle goal off the boot of Jordanyol Bayonne-Kenol to make the match 4-2.

Hatch would score one more goal to cap their 5-2 victory.

Head Colt soccer coach John Barbour said, “We have to pressure the ball when we anticipate and force them to make mistakes when we do that good things happen for us. When we do not put pressure on them we pay the price.”

The Colts had chances to score, but good defense from the Bears prevented them from finding the back of the net more often.

Barbour said, “If we get into the state tournament we have to finish our chances when we get them if we want to be successful in state.”

The Colts will be waiting to see if they get into the state tournament. If they do not then their season will be over.
