Colts drop close contest to 4A Lovington

In their second match of the season, the Colt varsity soccer team lost a close and hard-fought contest at Lovington against the Wildcats.

The 'Cats built up a 2-0 lead in the first half, thanks to some NMMI miscues.

"It was the battle of beginning-of-the-season jitters," explained head Colt coach John Barbour. "We made some mistakes and they capitalized on them."

"We turned up the pressure in the second half," continued the coach "and that's when we got our goal. Their fullback was trying to pass back to their goalie, but our pressure forced him to kick it too hard and it went past the keeper and into the goal."

With the loss the Colts drop to 1-1 on the season. They'll next face another Wildcat team - this time 6A Clovis - again on the road, on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 6:00 PM.
