The New Mexico Military Institute Colt soccer team fell to the Lovington Wildcats 2-1 in overtime.

The first half was 0-0 with opportunities for both teams that did not go into the back of the net. In the second half the Colts scored first on a goal by Francisco Vazquez to give the Colts a 1-0 lead.

Lovington answered back on a hand ball in the box by NMMI. The Wildcats scored on the penalty kick to tie the match 1-1. In overtime the Wildcats got the golden goal to win the match 2-1.

Head Colt soccer coach John Barbour liked the effort from his team, but emphasized capitalizing on scoring opportunities.

Coach Barbour said, “We did really well. We should have put this game away in the first half. We had multiple scoring opportunities that did not find the net. We let the Wildcats back into the game and they won.”

The next match for NMMI will be against East Mountain in Sandia Park, NM on October 4th at 1:00 PM.

Coach Barbour said, “We need to finish scoring opportunities. We need to take care of them against East Mountain if we want to win.”
